Armadale SES reunion update 25-Nov-2007

Well, the reunion is over. It was well attended and enjoyed by all. A photo gallery is now available and can be accessed via the Galleries link on the left or directly from here.

We also had an update on the actual age of the unit and it seems that it may have started in 1959 or 1960... so our 50th reunion is not that far away.

Armadale SES reunion to celebrate 40 years of service

Although there is some debate about when the Unit actually began, depending on where you get the information, this year will mark at least 40 years (probably 42) of providing emergency services to the Armadale area. During that time, many people have contributed to this service — some for long periods, some not so long. (Our current Manager has been with the Unit 30 years.)

The Armadale Unit started life under the old football stadium in Gwynne Park, then moved to the old bus depot in Armadale, with a crew of just six. After subsequent moves to temporary premises in Jull Street and Champion Drive, the current Headquarters was built in 1985. Today the unit operates three fully equipped vehicles and has a team of 38 volunteers, who train every Wednesday night and are available for call-outs for everything from storm damage and bushfire support to assisting the Police with searches for lost persons.

All past and present volunteers are invited to join in the celebrations at the Armadale SES Headquarters at 53 Owen Road, Kelmscott on Saturday, November 3, 2007 for an afternoon/evening function. If you have any old photos or memorabilia, we would love to have them to display on the day.
